Renison students value feeling safe, supported, and included in our community.
Our Link Inclusion Lounge is a space that invites all students to be who they are and to express themselves freely.
Our Principles of Inclusion encourage:
- We recognize that all members of our community have unique needs
- We are curious and lead collaboratively
- We focus on the strength of every individual without assumptions
- We encourage inclusion by navigating each interaction with respect, civility, and compassion
- We respect everyone’s right to express and present themselves relative to their religion, culture, race, ability, ethnic background, sexual identity, and gender identity
Why a Link Inclusion Lounge?
In Winter 2024, the Student Experience and Housing team conducted consultation sessions with our Renison student community, focusing on students from equity-deserving communities. Feedback from these sessions highlighted the value of a space of inclusion where all students, including students from equity-deserving communities, can come to connect and access support.
We welcome you to visit our Renison: A road map for student belonging webpage to learn more about the history and process that has led to our Link Inclusion Lounge space.

Meet Claire!
Claire has been part of the Renison community for the past year, and is now studying in our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program and completing her practicum as Renison's Inclusion Coordinator. Claire loves languages, and can speak English, Russian, and French. When she's not hanging out with her best pal, Frankie (her adorable cat), she is also a big history geek who loves talking about anything related to the Roman Empire, the Romanov family, World War II, but especially dark history.
Meet with Claire about:
- Finding ways to connect in your Renison community and to learn about the events happening in our Link Inclusion Lounge
- How to build your communication skills, time management skills, and leadership skills
- Strategies to strengthen mental health wellness and support with advocating for your own needs

My Inclusion Coordinator Journey
The story of how my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) path intersects with the Inclusion Coordinator role was dramatic. During our BSW placement fair, I paid no attention to Renison’s booth, thinking it was the school’s display for the BSW program. A while after, out of my expectations, I was contacted by Renison for an interview (it turned out that my placement manager passed my resume to the Student Experience and Housing team). With some uncertainty and confusion, I attended the interview. From there, I understood how the Inclusion Coordinator role could be connected to my social work placement.
A Year in the Life of an Inclusion Coordinator
Renison values collaboration and diverse perspectives. The college intentionally recruited two placement students who could bring meaningful change and connection through their lived experiences and skill sets. I am incredibly grateful to work alongside my classmate and colleague, Summer Wu. Together, we’ve accomplished a great deal and learned so much from one another.
