Our Goals

The Renison Town & Gown Society was founded to:

  • Financially assist Renison-registered students in the Social Development Studies and/or Bachelor of Social Work programs who have entered university from non-traditional routes.*
  • Increase the awareness of Renison University College in the local community and beyond.
  • Increase the monetary value of each award offered and to increase the number of awards annually.

Who We Are

Established in 1994, the primary purposes of the Renison Town & Gown Society are friendraising and fundraising.  The Society is also intended to provide a social and professional network for its members.

Each year, members are invited to:

  • Two major events held by the society
  • Other major College events, such as Renison's annual One Sky Festival

Programs We Support

Renison University College is the affiliated Anglican college of the University of Waterloo.  A liberal arts college, Renison's academic programs emphasize the development of intellectual skills applicable to diverse career and life situations.

  • The Social Development Studies program prepares graduates to work in various helping professions, community organizations, social work, teaching, human resources, and communication.
  • Through the School of Social Work, Renison trains professional social workers, who complete the Bachelor of Social Work and/or Master of Social Work degrees, which is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.

In addition to providing three full-time awards and two part-time awards, the Town & Gown Society has:

  • Contributed a Town & Gown Society Group Study Room in Renison's Lusi Wong Library
  • Joined Renison's Circle of 50, an exclusive giving circle that supports the long term sustainability of the College's campus and buildings
  • Named a student lounge in Renison's North Building
  • Supports the Crown Ward Residence Bursary, providing a residence opportunity to eligible Crown Wards in Waterloo Region
