Orientation at Renison

Find out what you need to know for your first day!

You’ve made it to Canada, and you’re ready to learn English! Our Orientation program will focus on introducing you to your program, life in Canada, and at the University of Waterloo.

Orientation normally takes place on the first and/or second day of your program.

Your Orientation Schedule

Your Orientation schedule is your guide for what will be happening for the first few days of your program. Orientation is busy, but don't worry! There will be many friendly people available to help you.

Ring Road is a 2.5 kilometre-long road that surrounds a large part of the University of Waterloo campus. Many bus stops and buildings face Ring Road. The northern entrance to Ring Road connects with Columbia Street, while the southern entrance connects with University Avenue.

Parking at Renison

Renison University College has very limited parking available for students; instructions are provided below to request a parking pass for the term. There is also daily parking available at a cost of $10 CAD per day (no seasonal pass required), but please note that the parking lot can fill-up quickly and space is not guaranteed. Please note residents and off-campus students parking pass fees are charged on a full-term basis and are not prorated based on dates of use.

Limited Spaces: Parking passes are limited for the Renison lot and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to Request a Parking Pass

  1. Complete the online parking application form (select "ELI Student")
  2. Pay the parking pass fee online through Shopify (select the applicable pass: ELI/Off-Campus). Renison will contact the individual once the pass is ready to be picked up

    Cultural and Conduct Expectations

Diversity iconRenison University College is a multicultural Canadian institution, home to students, staff and faculty from all corners of the world.  It can sometimes be difficult for newcomers to adjust to a different culture and customs.

A person new to Canada may find differences from their own culture for things like food, behaviours, laws, religious beliefs, and holidays.  Many differences are obvious, but there are also subtle differences that take time to learn.  Some of the less obvious differences may be in knowledge, values, and social norms.

Once in Canada, you may find that some these customs and behaviours are different from your own culture.  The better you understand the differences and similarities between your culture and Canadian culture, the easier it will be for you to feel comfortable in living in Waterloo.
